Undercurrent

What the email forms keep.

Undercurrent collects personal information in two places: the launch email signup and the contact form. This page says what each keeps and for how long.

Launch email

What you agree to. A short welcome when you confirm, then one email when Undercurrent launches. Unsubscribe any time. We send a confirmation link first. You are not subscribed until you press Confirm on the page it opens.

What is stored.

  • Your email address and whether it is waiting, confirmed or unsubscribed.
  • When you signed up and confirmed, and the IP address and browser details of each of those requests.
  • Which version of the wording above you were shown.
  • When each message to you was sent, and when and how you unsubscribed.

Why. To send what you asked for, to prove you asked for it if anyone questions a message, and to stop the form being used to mail people who did not.

Where. In Undercurrent's database. Once you confirm, your address is also added to a mailing list on the mail server run by DalosTech, which sends the messages.

How long. A confirmation link works for 7 days. A signup never confirmed is deleted after 30 days. The record of a subscription is kept while it lasts and for 3 years after it ends, as the proof of consent, then deleted.

Leaving. Every message after you confirm has an unsubscribe link that works with one click and keeps working. Once you use it, nothing more is sent.

Contact form

A message is forwarded from the site's own address to the Undercurrent team's inbox, with your address as the one to reply to. The site does not store the message.

For 365 days it keeps a log entry for each message, to limit abuse of the form: when it arrived, a keyed hash of your IP address (not the IP address itself), the domain of your email address and whether it was delivered.

Everywhere else

The theme you choose is remembered in your browser and is not sent to the site. To ask about or delete anything kept about you, use the contact form.
